Brush fire burns 500 acres in California Valley

A large brush fire is burning out of control in the California Valley.

Smoke from the Soda Fire, located near Highway 58 and Soda Lake Road, is visible over the Temblor Range to the west of Taft

The Soda Fire was reported around 2 p.m. and was about 3 acres in size when the first Cal Fire San Luis Obispo arrived.

It started spreading rapidly and by 3 p.m. it grown to 500 acres in size with some structures threatened, Cal Fire said.

A spot fire, about 4 acres in size, broke out south of the main fire and it was also threatening structures, according to reports from the scene.

Fire equipment and crews on the ground are being aided by 7 air tankers.
