Fire west of Cuyama held to 17 acres

A fire that broke out west of New Cuyama on Monday was quickly contained after it burned about 17 acres, the United States National Forest Service said.

Firefighters from Los Padres were joined by others from Cal Fire San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County in battle the fire, which broke out in steep terrain in dry, windy weather. Air tankers and water-dropping helicopters were also used.

The fire was located near Highway 166 east of Rock Front Ranch.

The USFS credited a quick response with containing the fire so quickly.
