Seven people were left homeless after fire leveled a mobile home on Golf Course Road north of Taft Sunday afternoon.

The Red Cross has been called to help the victims.

The doublewide mobile home, located in the 28500 block of Golf Course Road, about a half-mile east of Highway 119, was engulfed in flames by the time the first firefighters arrived, Battalion Chief Tony Bloomer said.

Bloomer said some of the occupants were at home when the fire broke out but were able to escape before the fire enveloped the building.

The fire spread into an adjacent yard, burning a trailer, outbuilding and several other items.

The fire broke out at 3:15 p.m. Four engines, a ladder truck, water tanker and support unit responded to the fire.
